Cultural & Tuition Enterprise Launched
TO HIGHLAND PERTHSHIRE from Aberdeen has come Contxesi Allende Urbieta. A native of Barcelona, her journeying to these parts has brought her, through a long teaching career, via Mexico, Equatorial Guinea, Norway and Switzerland.
Contxesi has a Licenciatura in Spanish Philology (the equivalent to a Masters Degree in Spanish Literature and Language) from Zaragoza University in Spain. She has also completed post graduate studies in Latin-American Literature (National University in Mexico) and Linguistics (at the University of Tromso, Norway).
Since her arrival in Scotland in 2004 she has launched a language school called Glen Alba. She enthusiastically told Comment: “My idea is to bring students from all over the world to learn and practice English in this locality. The combination of well organised courses run by experienced staff, the beautiful environment and the many cultural and sporting activities will, I’m sure, prove to be a winner with foreign clients.” |

Contxesi (right) is also offering Spanish teaching within the Perth and Kinross area through a variety of courses designed to suit the different needs of, among others, students, business people, second home owners, holiday makers and travellers.
In addition she is pleased offer courses in Spanish literature and to lead a reading group specialising in Spanish or Latin American literature.
Guided tours to the ‘alternative Spain’ are already on the stocks for 2006. The idea is to combine the rich, cultural experiences of an area that she knows so well with real language teaching.
Client Accommodation Needed
Depending upon demand, Glen Alba will operate in Pitlochry, Aberfeldy, the Birnam-Dunkeld area and in Strathtay. Contxesi expects to attract a clientele which will take up accommodation in the different hotels, B&B, guest-houses and self catering establishments in these areas.
“I am greatly interested to hear from householders who might be interested in lodging some of Glen Alba’s students who would, of course, pay for their stay. Long experience in these matters has demonstrated to me that both the students and the hosts benefit from these arrangements,” she explained.
Furthermore, she is keen to contact people with the right qualifications and experience to become involved in this project. “If you feel that this describes you and that you would like to teach, assist, lodge, or offer your services in other ways please contact me on 01887 840 387,” said Contxesi.
