Affordable Housing Tops Scots Government Agenda
Scotland’s Government has set out its agenda for a new generation of affordable housing in Scotland. Minister for Communities Stewart Maxwell MSP has outlined the Government’s intentions to maximise the number of new homes built across Scotland.
Mr Maxwell set out his vision at the Chartered Institute of Housing Scotland’s conference on the future of social housing. The Minister is shortly to host a Housing Task Force to address land supply and planning issues, before inviting contributions in the autumn on the best way forward .
Welcoming the new homes commitment, MSP John Swinney said: “I am very pleased that the new Government has put affordable housing at the top of the agenda. |

Acute Shortage
“One of the most common issues raised by my constituents is that there is a distinct housing shortage which needs addressed. Many of the towns in Angus and Perthshire have a rapidly expanding population which is outpacing the availability of housing. In rural Angus and Perthshire also, housing shortages are particularly acute.
“I welcome the Minister’s moves to open up dialogue on the issue, which will hopefully ensure the towns in my constituency retain a young population who can afford to buy homes in the area.
“I welcome the Scottish Government’s proposals to put in place sustainable reforms which will ensure the projected future demand for affordable housing will be met.”
