Best Rural Retailer: Local In The Running

Bob Brawn, owner of the Bridge of Cally Post Office, was congratulated on 12 November along with his staff by local MP Pete Wishart for reaching the regional final of the Countryside Alliance’s Best Rural Retailer 2007.

Their meeting also covered discussion of the important issues being faced at this difficult time for Scotland’s Post Offices.
Aftewards the MP said: “It is fantastic news to hear that Bridge of Cally Post Office is in contention for the Scottish title of the Best Rural Retailer for 2007.
“This competition is held to highlight the diversity of rural enterprise and the determination of communities to survive and prosper against the odds. Bridge of Cally Post Office has been picked from around 2,500 nominations and is a shining example of how a rural retailer can thrive in our Perthshire communities.

“It was a pleasure to meet and congratulate the owner in person. This nomination is a tribute to the hard work of staff and their dedication to the local community.
“We also had a chance to discuss the future of Scotland’s Post Office network. It is great relief to hear that the Bridge of Cally Post Office is not earmarked for closure and the service that this business provides serves as a perfect example of how Post Offices are integrated with local facilities and services that so often make up the heart of the community.”
