Danni's Equestrian Venture

Danni Menzies, 19, is opening her own riding school and trekking club in Kenmore. With five stables and six stalls already built, and four still under construction, this is set to be a vast task. So far she has 11 horses under her charge, with two Shires used for trekking, and her very own ‘rescue’ horses.

Nina and Visza were both on their way to the meat factory, but were luckily rescued. Danni told Comment: “The men that take the horses tend to stop at English peoples’ houses as they usually get more money for them than at the factory.”

Fortunately for the horses, and for Danni, an English lady happened to be at home when the traders called and she saved them from being shipped to Hungary to be rendered. Danni later acquired them through a trader and, with her love and care, they are now well on their way to recovery.

Danni has a lot of aspirations for her new business. Qualified as a trekking instructor, she is taking people up into the surrounding hills on the Shires - this being only the second school in Britain that uses these “gentle giants”. With five more Shires arriving before the end of the year it looks like Danni will have her hands full, “and they eat like giants, too” she said.

Saddle Club
A children’s saddle club is planned The club gives children the opportunity to “own a horse for the day” one day a week, grooming, mucking out the stables and educating them in preparation for having a horse of their own. It also allows children to go on daily rides with the horses and to be confident around these animals.

In spring of next year an adults’ riding club will open with a qualified BHS instructor offering therapeutic and relaxed gentle rides through the area. Danni herself has experienced the benefits that this new ventur will offer to clients: “When I was at uni I suffered from panic attacks and couldn’t leave my flat for a month though anxiety. Now, though, I’m out everyday with the horses…it helps me to relax.”

The stable will also be taking in liveries and Danni is looking for some help to keep up with her growing enterprise. She is keen to hear from anyone willing and able to assist with exercising the horses and mucking out etc for four to five days a week. She can be contacted on 07809 659577.
