Free Training Events for Tourism Businesses

Tourism and retail businesses in Scotland are being offered the chance to attend an innovative free training event to help them improve the experience they give to customers.

The autumn programme of theatrical Visitor Experience Workshops will kick off on 12 November for three weeks. These free workshops are designed to help front line staff understand how easy it can be to deliver a fulsome and authentic visitor experience, and boost local trade to boot.

Organised by Pride & Passion, the grass-roots tourism movement supported by Nick Nairn and Muriel Gray, the workshops are designed help tourism businesses tweak good customer service to reach new levels of excellence.

They will also show how to get the most out of interactions with visitors. “We’ve changed the content and format of the workshops from previous years to ensure that participants are getting a whole new experience.

“One of the attractions of having a theatre-based element to these events is that the possibilities for presenting visitor scenarios are endless and highly enjoyable”, said Gillian Stirton, Project Manager.

The workshop will be packed full of insights and helpful tips, and attendees will get the chance to swap notes and catch up with other tourism businesses in their local area. Lunch and refreshments will be provided.

The Theatre Workshop will be at Westlands Hotel, Pitlochry on 27 November from 11am to 3.15pm

“Don’t worry – we promise you won’t have to do role-play!” added Gillian.

Lunch is also provided along with a goodie bag. Folk are encouraged to invite a pal or colleague or two but to please let the team know how many will be attending by contacting: team@prideandpassion.net or free phone 0800 028 0588.

MSP Support
Local MSP and Minister for Sustainable Development, John Swinney, said: “These workshops are an excellent idea and I would strongly encourage anyone working in the tourism sector to go along. They are an excellent opportunity to learn new skills, develop existing abilities and share ideas with others working in the industry.

“We have excellent tourism services here in Perthshire and across North Tayside and cater extremely well for visitors. However there are always ways in which we can improve and with our many natural attractions, it is vital that we ensure we are making the most of our assets.

“Tourism is a crucial industry in Perthshire, comprised largely of small businesses. It contributes greatly to the local economy, generating employment and benefiting numerous industries both directly and indirectly. It is therefore imperative that we promote this sector and encourage professional development within it. I fully support this initiative as a means to enhance visitor satisfaction and increase tourism in our area.”
