Tribal Gathering in Moulin
TRIBE, the local natural skin care co-operative run by Medical Herbalist Jacqui Hazzard, Julie Campbell and Karen Downie, has found new premises at the Old Post Office in Moulin and opened for business on 3 November.
Devotees of their excellent soaps and skin care products are now able to buy them at source and discuss some of their skin’s needs with Jacqui, who draws on her extensive knowledge of medicinal plants in creating the recipes for each product.
Dispensary
Jacqui will also install a herbal dispensary where visitors can seek her advice for minor ailments without having to engage her in full consultation and may buy herbal simples – arnica cream for bruises, starflower cream for simple eczema, and the like. |

Special products for the festive season will include topically packaged gift packs with the fresh, new scents of Geranium & Verbena, and limited edition Jasmine & Myrrh Soap. Pure jasmine essential oil is one of the most expensive oils one can buy and it is generally considered too luxurious an ingredient for soap. But in order to create a very special Christmas limited edition, the co-operative decided to develop a combined sweet-scented, exotic jasmine with the woody, earthy scents of myrrh.
Studio
The studio is primarily a space in which to make the soaps, creams and lotions that comprise their Tribe Natural Skin Care range but Julie, a designer who used to work with Donna Karan before downshifting to a more holistic life as a yoga teacher back in her home town of Pitlochry, has shown her talents in design by creating a delightful space which showcases some of her favourite local designers.
She explained to Comment: “At Tribe our ethos is to work with natural, organic ingredients and materials where possible, all of our packaging is low footprint in that it can be recycled or composted.
Local Craftsmanship
“We don’t compromise our recipes by stinting on active herbs, essential or nutrient oils. This shows in the quality of both the scent and performance of our products.”
She continued: “When considering which designers we would like to showcase we are looking for those working with natural materials to an equally high standard of design and craftsmanship.
“Our makers are local. Ruth Morris of Roobedo, who makes beautiful bespoke clothing and soft furnishings using natural fabrics, including highly acclaimed Harris tweed, Angus Ross’s furniture and Malcolm Appleby’s jewellery.”
