Castle Garden's Cattery

Just outside Dunkeld on the Murthly estate, Castle Gardens Cattery is easily accessible when travelling south on the A9.

The cattery operator, Mary Davies, told Comment that she manages it on a small scale. “This allows for the opportunity to become familiar with all our regulars and their likes and dislikes. It makes us very suitable for the more nervous or elderly cat,” she said.

Each pen is built to (FAB) standard. The Feline Advisory Bureau is a charitable organisation dedicated to the improvement of the wellbeing of cats and, as such, it lays down stringent requirements necessary to achieve the best possible environment in which to board cats.

The Castle Gardens pens are built along a very large, south-facing wall looking out onto open lawns and fields with plenty of wildlife for entertainment, chickens, rabbits, and guinea fowl.

The pens are lined, insulated and fitted with thermostatically controlled heaters maintaining a comfortable temperature, and each is walk-in height having a window with a shelf for easy viewing,. They all have their own 6’outdoor run with sun shelf, to which the animal borders have access 24 hours a day.

“I have also added heated igloo beds - a great favourite with our cats, helping them to relax very quickly in strange surroundings,” said Mary.

All cats are fed their usual diet from home and owners are encouraged to bring their cats own bedding and toys to make them feel more at ease.

Boarding fees are £5.80 a day
