Chefs' Honours for Dunkeld Hilton

Two chefs from the Hilton Dunkeld recently won awards at the Hotelympia 2008 five day culinary competition in London.

Executive chef Ross Turner and chef de partie Colin Thomson both returned with awards. Ross claimed third place in the Tilda UK Chef of the Year competition and Colin took first place in the World Master Chef Society Young Chef Challenge.

The contest gave both chefs the chance to shine through a series of live competitions.

Ross also picked up a bronze medal in the Challenge Trophy and a gold medal for outstanding kitchen hygiene.

Colin (21) caught the eye of judge and celebrity chef Brian Turner to gain second place in the World Skills UK Search For a Star competition.

The competition was part of a search to find a team of talented chefs aged 21 and under to travel to Canada later this year to compete on a world stage and fly the flag for the UK.

John McLaughlin, general manager at the Hilton Dunkeld, said “Both chefs have done exceptionally well and special mention must go to Colin who, despite his young age, really shines in competitions like this.

“We take great care at the Hilton Dunkeld to nurture and train young talent such as Colin.”
