Local Tourism Successes Accoladed

At a 500-strong event on 23 February MSP John Swinney, in his capacity as Cabinet Secretary for Finance and Sustainable Growth, presented awards at the Scottish Hotel of the Year ceremony in Edinburgh. Key players from the tourism industry gathered from throughout Scotland amid what was described as ‘great optimism about the prospects for success in the industry’.
The MSP was delighted to see awards made to a number of hotels in Highland Perthshire.

Accoladed
• The Fortingall Hotel was awarded the Rising Star Green Hotel of the Year;

• the Killiecrankie Hotel was awarded the Rising Star Hot Tip of the Year; and
• the Ballathie House Hotel was awarded Country Sports Hotel of the Year. There was also a commendation for East Haugh Hotel near Pitlochry in the Small Country Hotel and Country Sports Category.
“I warmly congratulate the local winners of these awards, which are a tribute to the quality and strength of the local tourism industry. Tourism is the number one industry in North Tayside and I am delighted recognition has been given to these local ventures, the MSP told the gathering.
“The Scottish Government is determined to work effectively in partnership with the tourism industry to deliver greater success for the industry. Ministers are determined to support the industry in expanding its size and in delivering a greater impact.
He added: “I know tourism is a quality industry in Scotland and can achieve so much more. Creating a strong focus on delivering success for tourism along with the practical cuts in Business Rates for small companies introduced by the Government will be great news for business in North Tayside and a real boost to the prospects for success.”
