Old Grandtully Pub Re-Opens

The Rickard family of Glassie is breathing new life into an old Grandtully institution with the reopening of the bar and accommodation for visitors in the old hotel. The family has have been operating the Glassie Bunkhouse for nearly 3 ½ years, and during that time, have seen the demand grow for accommodation of this type. An opportunity arose to expand their family business when Julian Rickard learned that the Grandtully Hotel was for sale and saw the potential to run this establishment along the same lines as the bunkhouse.

With the purchase secured, the Grandtully now offers self catering accommodation for up to 24 people, ideal for families and large groups. Julian’s brother Simon and his wife Bernie will be joining him in the business, and have leased the café/bar area, which they have named the ‘Tully’.

They will be open to the public 7 days a week, Monday to Saturday 11am-11pm and Sunday 12.30pm-11pm. Simon told Comment “this was just the challenge I was looking for, I have been busy updating the décor in the bar area and have worked hard to maintain the original character of the place.” Bernie said “we are really enjoying being in Grandtully and meeting the locals, it’s been great welcoming them back to their favourite haunt and with the summer season just around the corner, we are looking forward to welcoming new visitors too.”

They will be serving food all day in the café/bar area, with last orders at 8pm. The emphasis with the food will be good traditional home-cooked bar food, Simon is especially looking forward to firing up his new Pizza ovens. There will be a kids menu available as they are keen to stress that families are most welcome. Live music will be a regular feature in the bar, Simon invited, “all you musicians out there to come along and bring your instruments.”

Regular visitors to the Tully will be the clients of Splash White-water Rafting, who will be using the pub as their base for their River Tay Run. Rafters and canoeists are encouraged to use the pub and there is a drying and changing room, although Bernie was keen to stress “wet or muddy boots are welcome in the bar area.”

Simon and Bernie can be contacted at the moment on mobile number 07832 341480 as they are awaiting the installation of a BT landline. So if you are looking for a warm welcome and a cold beer, drop in and see them at the Tully.
