Palace People

A new operator has taken on the Palace Hotel in Aberfeldy and commenced 2008 with a timetable of refurbishment plans in place.

David Coutts, of ADC Scotland Ltd based in Aberdour, is a thermographic surveyor to trade, but is also a business consultant. He saw the hotel advertised in the commercial papers, and was looking for a new project.

David told Comment: “I am a great believer in holidaying in Scotland, but as I have 3 children getting family accommodation can be difficult.” This is where his plans for the hotel are focused. Initially he will refurbish the first two floors of the hotel, to provide a better standard of accommodation, with family rooms available. There will also be a residents’ only dining room and lounge, with internet access and games for the children.

David will be involved in the day-to-day running of the hotel, whilst the first stage of the renovation is in progress, but overall management of the hotel will fall to Kerry Bott, along with her partner Martyn Davies, Bar Manager, both pictured above.

The plans for the cocktail bar is to create a family orientated restaurant/coffee bar, with a warm and informal feel. Food ingredients will be locally sourced and people will be encouraged to drop in anytime of the day for coffee, lunch or dinner. The work scheduled for the public bar area will turn this into a lounge bar, with comfortable seating and the intention is to have food available there. There is a longterm plan to create a beer garden/outside eating area, and the management team is working closely with the planners to develop this.

David acknowledges that his plans for the hotel will take him 12-18 months to complete but is confident that the hotel will then offer local residents and visitors alike a welcoming place to visit.
