P&K Deserves Civil Service Job Relocations

Following the recommendations of a review on the Scottish Government’s relocation policy were published on 28 January, Tory MSP Murdo Fraser has urged that Perth & Kinross needs benefit from any public bodies or civil service jobs relocated in the future.

The Asset Management Review, carried out by the Scottish Government last year, reviewed the management of the Scottish Government estate, including agencies, non-departmental public bodies and other associated bodies. The review also looked into the practice of job dispersal from Edinburgh to other parts of Scotland.

The MSP believes that any job relocations in the future have to be to the benefit of the taxpayer. Since the Scottish Parliament has been established, thousands of civil service jobs have been moved out of Edinburgh to other parts of Scotland.

However, no civil service jobs have been relocated to Perth & Kinross, even though Perth & Kinross Council has put forward bids to attract them.

“...Perth & Kinross has a below average share of public sector jobs...”

Commenting, the MSP said: “The next time civil service jobs are considered to be relocated, I want the SNP Government to seriously consider Perth & Kinross as the possible destination. So far Perth & Kinross has not received a single job from the civil service dispersal policy. Perth & Kinross would be an ideal location as it is close to the central belt as well as being at the doorstep to the Highlands.
“Already Perth & Kinross has a below average share of public sector jobs.. it would be positive for the local area as well for any relocated public bodies to come here. I will continue to make the case for Perth & Kinross in the Scottish Parliament and set out why we deserve to be considered for any future civil service job dispersals.”
