Shooting
Country sports tourism in Scotland is worth an estimated £200m per annum, mostly to rural areas, with Perthshire and Angus being popular destinations. The Field Sports Welcome Scheme covers a wide range of shooting markets from game, wildfowl and rough shooting to deer stalking for which it provides details of both serviced accommodation and self-catering accommodation.
MSP Murdo Fraser presented awards to Hilton Dunkeld and the East Haugh House Hotel during the launch in recognition of their work in Field Sports development in Scotland. He commented: “I welcome the launch of VisitScotland’s Field Sports Welcome Scheme. Country sports tourism is very important to the local economy in Perthshire and Angus and this scheme will bring benefits to the area and will boost visitor numbers.
Beneficial
“For some years I have been raising the need to improve information on country sports in Perthshire and Angus and the launch of this Scheme is a great way to promote what we have to offer in the local area.
“It was a pleasure for me to award the Hilton Dunkeld and the East Haugh House Hotel awards for the amount of work they have put into country sports tourism. Also, I am pleased to see VisitScotland engaging with the industry to develop this market and this is a helpful venture for our tourism industry. Country sports visitors make a large contribution to the local economy and I am sure that many local businesses involved in field sports will see benefits from the launch of this scheme.”
